the basin – the difference of a day

Today, in Canada, we are embracing Truth and Reconciliation by learning and understanding of the colonial’s brutal treatment of our first nations in the residential school system. A day for healing and to recognize the atrocities and multi-generational effects of these schools and public policies where these students were stripped of personal and cultural identity. Generation after generation was stripped of any dignity, spirit and any remints of hope. They were sent home illiterate, broken after 10 or so years in the intuitions that were to teach them literacy, history, science. Many students never made it home, instead they lay in shallow graves that pepper the old residential schools property. It is our Canadian history, one that we are embracing to move forward with dignity and respect for all of our citizens.
