my quilt

this is my house quilt. really. where i live, house prices are out of my world. so for me to have a house i have made one – a house on my quilt.

being a house quilt, i started with the house
needed some green to represent our lush neighbourhood – it’s a start
Some blue was added to represent the sky in amongst the green

Looking more like a quilt top with the sun, more sky both day and twilight at the top
added some water at the lower left and 3 bears
the sun was applicated to the quilt with extra layers of batting to give it more depth
here it has been quilted with a wool batting with the excess batting and back cloth laid out for a trim
for the binding, i used the blue that represents water
the finished product – it came together quit nicely
the back shows the different stiches that i used to quilt the water with waves

I did take this for a test nap yesterday and it was awesome, light and warm.

a couple of quilts just finished

These were fun to make. Both are made using the strips to make half square triangles – lots of pieces and fun to work with. My main sewing machine was just back from the shop so I was finally able to finish the quilting of both.

The back in gold was pieced together on a 1947 Singer Featherweight machine while the Pfaff was in the shop. The Pfaff is back and once again works beautifully.

A quilt for Barb

I have fallen in love with quilting. This was fun to whip together. Barb, my mom in law, before Covid19 would spend the cold Canadian winters in Mexico. With travel restricted or non existent, Bill and I thought it would be nice to bring the warmth of Mexico to Barb in Halifax and this is what we came up with.

a look at the top from the back – almost like stained glass

Still have the boarders to add

This is the Mirror Mirror pattern that is a free pattern from Jordan Fabrics, here is the link

Barb sent photos of the new quilt on her bed, she loves it 🙂
