the basin – day 183 (half a year)

just over 6 months ago Canada was put into pandemic mode – you know the space that i mean. todays picture is a random selection from this half a year. some of these photos may have been posted here before but not many.

183 days ago i decided to post a picture each day of the basin during this pandemic lock down. being raised in a city, i know too well that sometimes if can feel very bleak. as this pandemic rages on, i have felt the tensions get cranked up with each passing month. these tensions have been in the news and here in my little community as well.

the wander on a walk about who found their way to our basin once said “this is paradise”. sharing this bounty would be a good think for me. Yes, think. my brain, like yours, is in constant motion and i have found that living here the basin brings a certain calmness to the viewer (me and those around me).

this calmness has been priceless at this time. when my soul yearns for my daughter so recently passed, and when it is hard to bear, the soothing rhythm of the waves, the call of the birds and the glisting of the rays of the sun have been a potent medicine. it brings me back to where i need to be, here and now. it is a great way to start my day.

thank you for participating in this project of mine. solace is found in activity. the activity creates a rhythm that allows us to move forward and move past the little bits that ail us.

please share any activity that you have found helpful in these unprecedented times. apparently we have another year or more of this disease spreading through our populations and we all can use a new idea or two to help while away the time.

and what helps us feel better is about the little connections through our days. and that includes sharing a little bit of ourselves.

oh, for those out there who are adamant that this disease of CoVid – 19 is all a hoax, and refuse to protect your self in this belief. fine, don’t – its your casket.

really, it is not about you, it is about we. we who are young and need the wisdom and the teachers who are all the more vulnerable to this disease. we who are old and have brought much love and wisdom to our families and friends. we who will help build the skills for the next generation in all areas of life, like the line men who keep the electrics going, or the carpenters who will help build your new home. we who are the bakers and cooks who help protect our most vulnerable. we who serve and protect to the best of our ability on any given day.

so when you wear your mask to protect others, you are not only protecting the ones that you love but also the ones that work seamless behind the scenes keeping our modern world ticking along. and as far as i can tell, all of us really enjoy our modern world.

i once told an unhappy neighbour that ‘the World of I is a very lonely place.” so many of us are alone now with the threat and carnage of CoVid – 19 and yet there are places where we can meet in imagination. let us put aside anger (yes that can be done with practice) and learn more about those around us. that is always a good place to start and like Aristotle once said, a good beginning is halfway there (or so i was told generations ago and it stuck).

be kind, stay safe and be well. oh, and many thanks for dropping by

the basin – day 47

Goslings
an amazing calm this morning on the basin

Hard to believe that it is just shy of 50 days of self isolation – when I started this morning pictures, i thought it would be a nice footnote to note the mornings on the basin and at best a few weeks – looks like it will be a new reality of distancing and slowing our never ending pace settings of days, weeks and years.

Austerity for the planet – our last chance. Really.

Our planet has a bug.  Human parasites that have been increasing the temperature of a whole planet.  No mean feat really.  How many latte’s must I drink for  my impact to be felt.  2.  That isn’t many but as my best guess, i will stand by it.  So, i am 15089 latte’s over my limit, perhaps more as i haven’t kept count.

Latte’s and coffee are my last addiction. In each sip, i understand the human carbon chain that allows for me to enjoy this powerful drug.

The latte in this photo was crafted by a barrister that has practiced this  art for 15 years.   It was an amazing day with my daughter in town.   Dresses were bought and long talks over latte’s and smoothies.

Our conversations often turn to the environment and how precious and unique it is.    And as there is so many of us humans, that we must all really do our part to slow down and care for our only home, the planet earth.

Really, if you were an alien from another planet, would you recuse us as a species.   I know i would hesitate and ponder deeply our need to survive.  Over a Latte if you please.

I know i digress but that is how i am wired and coffee is my medicine to keep it in check. enjoy your day.

weekly photo challenge : anticipation

DSC01426

I am anticipating the sun reaching back up into our northern sky. Soon, it will reach the lowest point on the horizon and then head back.

For the first time in our Earths history we as humans have the ability to change how our seasons transpire across this fabled jewel. Sadly, based on our current culture of “I” and “profit”, it may only ever be saved in a series of photographs and stories.

We need our jewel so much more then our jewel needs us.

Reduce, reuse, recycle and use only naturally sourced products that will leave only riches behind in the natural recycling process. Make your  choices wisely.  If you are unsure of how to dispose of it, don’t purchase it in the first place.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Pure

what a concept.  Noticed these lawn ornaments chowing down on the morning glory – a pest devouring another pest.  Both can look good though.  DSC09465.JPG

Today it was a breading pair that graced our backyards looking for the good stuff. Usually it is just the doe and perhaps a fawn or two. Hardly see the bucks.

DSC09466.jpg

Notice how the horns are velvet, this new growth that will soon be scraped off.  4 points and he still looks good.  Urban life for the dear can be very harsh. I have seen several over the years with gashes and broken legs from jumping the fences.  If there is food – they will jump and pretty much anything (except thistles) will tempt their pallet.

I rarely see older does – parenting is hard under the best of conditions.  And this one is so young and small.  I suspect her life will not be as long as the bucks.  Though you never know she may beat the odds.

2015–the backside of another year– Time to look forward too

It was a good year overall.  Not enough sewing projects were completed but I still have not given up on them.  I guess it is to be expected having a full time job and an almost full time self employed business and family to help keep it all together.

DSC07789Not enough posts either. Perhaps I will get to more of these in the new year.

There is the Mona Lisa – my red. So named  because I have been working on it for over a year.  It will look good and fit like a glove but as of yet I have no where to ware it.  So I will be patient. DSC07773

There is the almost finished kimono that I have started for my partner – mostly finished so perhaps this weekend.  Both the Kimono and the Mona Lisa red dress are currently residing on my dress mannequin dummy– (Daisy is the dummy’s name – just in case you ask.)  Daisy is residing in my office at the moment and doing an additional duty of holding the felted wool coat – just because it is very cold outside and it is a good fit.

DSC07718 (2)And for some reason as if I had nothing to do I started knitting again.  It is fun and sometimes I can actually do two things at once.

The photographs are a nice distraction from the everyday pressures so they continue to pop out of my camera. I enjoy sharing them here on the blog – keeping it simple while I do.

I am looking forward to sharing a stellar 2016 here when I can.  Life sometimes just gets  busy!

Have great New Year Folks.
